The Jen Nathan Travel Scholarship was established in 2013 to inspire San Mateo High School students to follow in the footsteps of the late Jen Nathan and continue her passionate journey around the world.

Jen Nathan was born and raised in Hillsborough, California and graduated from San Mateo High School in 1994. Jen had a wide variety of hobbies and interests, however, the most significant of which was her passion to see the world. During her frequent travels (to over 50 countries!), Jen often worked on her photography and creative writing skills, but also spent time volunteering in the local communities and making lifelong friendships across the globe.

Local San Franciscan, epic friend and wonderful wife, Jen bravely and courageously passed beyond our world way too early and far too young. Everyone who knew Jen was mesmerized by her pleasant personality and passion for life.

As a tribute to her and to eternalize her passion, The Jen Nathan Travel Scholarship will annually award a travel grant to a San Mateo High School sophomore or junior who meets the following criteria:

  • Leadership in and / or meaningful extracurricular contribution and commitment to the community;
  • Exceptional desire to travel internationally driven by an inspirational goal
